In an one hour session we talked about templates for new activities. Afterwards we created some Mockup-variations, you´ll find attached.

We will add further comments soon...

I'd like to add a quick summary of our discussion in words:

motivation

  • most of the institutions share some kind of template with their teacher
  • the existing possibilities in moodle are limitated and don't have a good user experience (creating a complete template course or importing activities from other courses)
  • the needs in templating often depend on content and metadata in single activities

goals

  • content and metadata of every activity can be saved as a template (by admins global and in a course section by designers)
  • the dialog of creating new activities adds the possibility to choose a template (for example by using an accordion in the right part of the dialog, we tried to create different mockups in the workshop posted by Klaus)

activities

  • some activities already have template features (for example feedback allows to import existing questions)
  • the userinterfaces and usecases would be equal and easier

further steps

  • define detailed requirements
  • extend the mockups to all use cases
  • create project group for next steps in Moodle Hochschulforum
  • find developer and solve funding

Thanks for the suggestions!

I would prefer the second but last mock up. And I would definitely avoid having to "Hinzufügen"-buttons as suggested in mock up number 2, as - at least for me - this is rather confusing: Where do I have to click to add a template or a new activity?

Maybe it would be a good idea to have the description for the "Vorlage" above the actual templates: If the list of templates becomes rather long (which in my opinion should be avoided, but still could happen easily), the description is no longer visible at first sight.
